General Poker
One of the first things I notice about poker greenhorns is their foot-stomping ‘bet big, play every hand’ gaming tactics. While it would be unfair to tar everyone with the same brush (indeed I was one of those players too☺) it would be safe to say that new players display surprising levels of enthusiasm which all-too-often translate into big money losses. Why - pray tell - is that? I imagine that like me, new players go through a series of experiences leading them into the big money gaming arena. Let’s say that you’ve played your fair share of home Texas Hold’em games and you feel it’s time go up against stiffer competition. Well, now you’re well and truly in the gaming fold and this is where you’re likely to meet up with a veritable mix of seasoned poker stars and fellow amateurs – much like yourself. It’s not entirely fair to say that amateurs will be at the mercy of poker sharks in online poker rooms. That’s because there are rooms specifically tailored to meet the needs of newcomers. However, poker players are a savvy lot, so the really good ones tend to be lurking where they can profit off the greenhorns.
Enjoy a game of general poker and pick up great Texas Hold em tactics
Naturally there are many valuable Texas Hold em tactics to be learned. These will not only improve your encompass multiple avenues worthy of exploration. Chief among them is to know the game. I can’t stress this enough, but knowing the game’s rules, card hand values and betting limits will take you further than you ever imagined. But it’s more than that, it’s about knowing how to read the expressions on people’s faces, their body language, calculating odds and probability ratios and knowing when to raise, call and fold. My biggest gripe with unseasoned players is their wanton desire for playing every hand they’re dealt. The truth is – you don’t have to play every hand. The only thing that playing every hand you’re dealt ensures, is a speedy exit from the contest. Top poker players are savvy and they bide their time. What I like to do with all novices and intermediate players is to recommend that they read these general poker tips. The rest is a proverbial piece of cake. Enjoy the game.
